Simple Betting Strategies That Work
Roulette is a mechanical game of chance where the player has
no influence over the outcome. The ball lands where the ball
lands. The skill of the player comes not from influencing the
mechanics of the game, but rather from manipulating how he or
she bets. The player wins by developing a strategy for anticipating
probabilities of where the ball will land and putting winning
money management systems in place.
This chapter will deal with some simple money management systems
that novice and experienced players should use. You can win
with these strategies. You should try them all. You will develop
favorites that fit your personality and style of play. You may
well find that you do not have to go any further to become a
winner at roulette.
Roulette, with its high odds is not a game for profit, at least
for most recreational players. It is a fun game to play and
that is how most people should approach it. But, by incorporating
a little strategy into your game you can get in, make some bets
and get back out a winner. The following are some tips to help
you do this.
Even Money Bet: This is a simple strategy. The two colors of
numbers on the wheel and on the table are red and black. Half
are red, half are black. Choose one of these two colors and
stay with it. Bet on either red or black. You have a 50-50 chance
of winning minus 2 (0 and 00) in every 38 spins. Start with
$1 to test your luck. If you are on a streak, you will want
to up your bet. When you win, take your winnings and leave your
original bet on the table for the next spin. When you lose,
double your bet. If you lose a second consecutive time, take
the loss and replace your original bet of $1. Remember, there
is no point in switching colors if you start losing. Each color
has an equal chance of winning under this system. Your odds
for winning are 18 in 38 spins or 47.38% of the time. This strategy
is exactly the same for even/odd or high/low bets and the payout
is the same. This is a great way for beginners to become familiar
with the board and with the pace of play.
Color/Columns: Bet three chips on red and two chips on the center
column (which has the most black). If red comes up on one of
the other columns, you win three chips but lose two. If black
comes up in the center of the column, you win four chips and
lose three. If both center and red come up, you win seven chips.
You won?t win or lose much with this system, but it will allow
you to play for a considerable amount of time.
The Double Street: A street is the line of three inside numbers
running across the three columns, i.e. 1, 2, 3 or 4, 5, 6. With
this bet you are going to play two streets at the same time.
Make the double street bet by placing your chip on the line
separating the first numbers of the street from the dozens spot.
For example, if you are going to play the two streets 1, 2,
3 and 4, 5 and 6, you will place your chip on the intersection
of 1 and 4. The odds on this bet are 15.79% and it pays 5 to
1.
Stay With The Same Inside Bet: If you watch the other players
at a roulette table, you will see people who seem to use a scattergun
approach to their betting. They scatter chips all over the board.
If they make enough bets, they win with apparent frequency.
But, they are also losing. An inside bet pays 35 to 1. It makes
more sense to bet three or four numbers and just stay with them.
You are not increasing your odds by scattering bets all over
the board. In fact, you are actually decreasing them.
The Five Numbers System: This strategy calls for straight up
inside bets where you get paid 35 to 1 if you win. You place
your bets on five individual numbers. Choose from all 38, including
the 0 and 00. This is a strategy where people like to play birthdays
or anniversaries or other favorite dates. Pick any five numbers.
They all have an equal chance of winning. Buy 40 $1 chips. Place
a chip on each of your five numbers. You will have enough chips
for eight spins. Repeat this same wager until you win. When
the ball comes to rest on one of your numbers, you will win
35 chips (the payout is 35:1). Now, take the 35 chips and divide
them up evenly (seven each) over the five numbers you are playing.
If you get lucky this time, you will win 7 X 35, or $245. Now,
take 100 of those chips and divide them evenly over the five
numbers you are playing. By betting only 100 chips, you will
still preserve a profit of $105. If you win, you will pick up
another $700 on your initial $40 investment!
Take your profit and run!
Nine Number Split: With this strategy you will make nine split
bets covering a total of 18 numbers for each spin. Split each
bet as follows: 1 & 4, 2 & 5, 3 &
36
6, 11 & 12, 26 & 27, 25 & 28, 31 & 34, 32 &
35 and 33 & 36. Your bet will be $9. If you win, you will
win $17. Your odds of winning with this bet are 47.34%.
Pick A Winner: Look for someone who is winning at the table.
Start making the same bets he or she is making. They might be
on a lucky streak. Stay with the streak. This doesn?t sound
like much of a strategy, but the odds of it working are at least
and good and probably better than most of the so-called systems
you can buy.
Play Surrender: This rule was developed for European Roulette
and is used on some tables in America. In Europe it is also
known as ?en prison?. It is not so much a strategy for winning
as it is a strategy for not losing so much at any one time.
If possible, choose a table offering the surrender or en prison
rule. When this rule is in play, if the ball lands in the 0
or the 00 slots, the bet stays on the table. The following spin
determines whether or not you win or lose. This rule applies
only to the outside or even money bets and it effectively cuts
the casino edge on these bets in half, which, of course is an
advantage for you.
Avoid The Five Number Line or ?Basket? Bet: This bet is different
than the five number bet strategy listed above. With this bet,
you are betting the five numbers at the top of the board, the
0, 00, 1, 3 and 3. A winning spin pays 6 to 1. The problem for
you with this bet is the odds. They are in the casino?s favor.
This is the worst bet on the board for the player. The casino?s
margin is a whopping 7.29%. This compares with 5.26% on the
rest of the board. It is a dumb play.
Keeping Track Of Winning Numbers: Sometimes you will see people
at the table taking notes about the numbers that are winning
and the numbers that are ?due? to win. This is a complete waste
of time. Every spin of the wheel is a separate and new event.
Every number has an equal chance to win. Nothing that happened
in previous spins has any bearing on anything that will happen
in the current spin or the next one. Just because a number hasn?t
been hit for a while does not mean it is any more likely to
be hit in the next spin.
The Bankroll Strategy: This strategy is as basic as a gambling
strategy can get, but it is extremely effective with roulette.
First, you determine the size bankroll you want to commit to
the game. For example, you might decide you can afford to lose
$500. You set a loss limit of $500. On the opposite end of the
spectrum you set a reasonable upside limit. Let?s say this is
$800. In other words, you will be happy winning $300 over your
original $500 bankroll. That would be a 60% profit, after all.
Now, play until you hit one of these two targets. Stop. Your
session is over.
Pick A Table That Gives The Best Odds: European roulette offers
better odds than American Roulette. If you have a choice, play
European roulette. The casino?s advantage is cut in half, giving
you much better odds. Better yet, find a table that is offering
European Roulette and the surrender option. The casino?s edge
was cut in half again. Now the casino?s edge is only about 1.35%
instead of the normal 5.26%, which is common for American roulette.
There are a number of free roulette games available on the Internet.
These are excellent opportunities for you to practice these
strategies. Try them out before you begin playing the game for
real.
When you learn to employ one or more of these 12 simple strategies,
you are going to be a more advanced roulette player than most
people who play the game. As you become proficient with one
or more of these strategies, you are going to find that you
win more often and your average winnings are higher.
