Systems
and Strategies
Before we go any further, we probably need to make the distinction
between systems and strategies. This is a book about roulette
strategies. Armed with the knowledge presented here about strategies
you may well go on to develop your own roulette system. Many
successful roulette players have.
System: A system is a betting methodology that requires that
you follow it exactly, spin after spin with no deviation. It
gives you a set of rules to follow that will supposedly minimize
the house edge and give you a winning advantage.
It seems like everyone has a system for beating roulette. There
are dozens of roulette systems for sale. They are available
in books and on video and T.V. Most of them have one thing in
common. Over the long run, they do not work. There are a few
systems that do work. Typically, the commercial systems available,
that will work, are very involved and require a great deal of
work to master.
You may decide that you want to develop your own system. If
you do it will be based largely upon your own personality and
style and built on the nine betting methods we have discussed.
Your system may also incorporate the 12 simple strategies that
we will discuss later in this book.
Strategy: A strategy is a guide to placing your bets, giving
you probabilities of winning. These strategies are not carved-in-stone
rules. They are intended only to help you play the game and
help you set your own win/loss limits.
You do not have it follow it exactly, spin after spin. In fact,
you might switch strategies in the middle of the session. You
may very well find more luck with one strategy on a given day
or during a given gambling session and better luck with another
strategy on a different day.
Luck: This might be a good time to have a little discussion
about luck. Roulette is a mechanical game of chance. Luck is
a factor in this game. You might find a book, video or supposed
expert that will tell you about a super system that eliminates
the need for luck and guarantees success. Beware the prophet.
If such a system existed, the inventor would keep it secret,
play it him or herself and retire to a life of luxury. The inventor
would have little incentive to share such a super system with
you or anyone else. When you sit down at the roulette table,
you want to have luck standing at your side. One of the ways
you will win at roulette is recognizing those times when luck
is not smiling on you and cut short your session. |
